A giant walked through the North German lowlands, through the Lüneburger Heide in direction of Peine. Here he took a short break and tipped the sand out his shoes.

Enough for North German proportions to create a high mountain. He then fell asleep and pressed with his head a heart shaped indentation into the back of the sand. The name 'Herzberg' (heart mountain) was born.

Centuries later, the Peiner wanted to plant some trees on the Herzberg. But only in 1911 donated Adolf Wilhelm Krasnapolsky, 30 000 Goldmark for the town forest.

The family Krasnapolsky stems from Kiev and has lived in Peine since 1804. They have generated some personalities in the taylor guild. When Adolf Wilhelm was 22 years old, he went to Amsterdam, became rich and started to build the 'Grand – Hotel', which he gave his name.
